What is it?
Manual control mode is the default mode that allows you to manually control the belt speed and deck incline angle by manipulating the Speed (right) and Grade (left) paddles located at the front of the handrails just short of the console.
How does it work?
Speed
The speed / pace of the treadmill can be manipulated between 40 minutes / mile (~25 min / km) and 4 minutes / mile (2.5 min / km). Your current pace in your preferred unit (minutes / mile or minutes / kilometer) is shown on the right side of the digital display in the console.
The Speed paddle (right) has 3 stages of control for both increases and decreases in speed / pace. You can push the paddle forward toward the front of the KICKR RUN (halfway and release, all the way and release, or all the way and hold) to increase the speed of the belt. You can pull the paddle backward (halfway and release, all the way and release, or all the way and hold) to decrease the speed of the belt.
The STOP button will cut the motor and bring the belt to quick but reasonable stop.
Grade
The grade of the treadmill can be manipulated between +15% and -3% in .5% increments. The current deck incline angle is shown on the left side of the digital display.
The Grade paddle (left) has two stages of control in for both increases and decreases in grade. You can pull the paddle backward toward the rear of the KICKR RUN (halfway and release, or all the way and release) to increase the grade of the deck. You can push the paddle forward toward the front of the KICKR RUN (halfway and release or all the way and release) to decrease the grade of the deck.
How to use it
When the KICKR RUN is turned on and the safety key is connected, the belt is stationary and the incline will sit at neutral, or whatever the grade was last set to.
Press the speed paddle forward to start the treadmill. The first press will start the belt at a 40 minute / mile (~25 min / km). You can change manually control the grade of the treadmill before or after the treadmill has been set in motion.
Speed control
The Speed paddle (right) has 3 stages of control for both increases and decreases in speed / pace.
Increase speed / pace
- Push the right paddle forward toward the front of the KICKR RUN to the first stop (approximately halfway) and immediately release for a relatively smaller increase in pace.
- Push the right paddle forward to the second stop (all the way) and immediately release for a greater increase in pace.
- Push the right paddle forward to the second stop (all the way) and hold it there to fine tune the pace by 1 second intervals.
Decrease speed / pace
- Pull and release the right paddle backward toward the rear of the KICKR RUN to the first stop (approximately halfway) and immediately release for a smaller decrease in pace
- Pull the right paddle backward to the second stop (all the way) and immediately release for a larger decrease in pace.
- Pull the right paddle backward to the second stop and hold to fine tune the 1 second pace.
Stop
- Press the STOP button to cut the motor and bring the belt to quick but reasonable stop.
Grade control
The Grade paddle (left) has two stages of control in for both increases and decreases in grade.
Increase grade
- Pull the left paddle backward toward the rear of the KICKR RUN to the first stop (halfway) for a 0.5% increase in grade.
- Pull the left paddle backward toward the rearof the KICKR RUN to the second stop (all the way) for a 2.0% increase in grade.
Decrease grade
- Push the left paddle forward toward the front of the KICKR RUN to the first stop (halfway) for a 0.5% decrease in grade.
- Push the left paddle forward toward the front of the KICKR RUN to the second stop (all the way) for a 2.0% decrease in grade.
Notes
- Speed / pace increments for each paddle press are not listed because they are relative. The lower the speed, the larger the incremental increases. As you are going faster, the relative increase per press will be reduced to help avoid overshooting your desired target pace.
