How to calibrate a smart trainer

Smart trainer calibrations should be done using the manufacturer’s app.

Prior to performing a spindown calibration, ensure that the trainer’s firmware is up to date and that the trainer is sufficiently warmed up.  A 10-minute ride is recommended before any spindown.  For maximum accuracy, this should be done prior to every ride.

Calibrating a Wheel-On Smart Trainer

1- set up your trainer following the instructions provided in your user manual.  Ensure that your tire pressure is correct (according to the tire recommendations).  The use of a trainer tire is highly recommended.

2- check the user manual to determine what your spindown time/number recommendation should be to ensure the greatest accuracy.

3- a 10-minute ride is recommended before completing the spin down.

4- follow the spindown instructions in your trainer's app.  Note the results. They should be within the acceptable limits for your trainer.  (see #2)  For greater accuracy, your spindown times should be the same each time.  If the spindown time is too short, this means that the tension knob is tighter or the tire pressure is higher.  Adjust and test again.  If the spindown time is too long, this means that the tension knob is looser or the tire pressure is lower.  Adjust and retest.

This calibration needs to be done prior to every ride.
