Use hDrop hydration sensor with ELEMNT ACE, BOLT 3 AND ROAM 3

When paired to an hDrop hydration sensor, your ELEMNT computer is able to present two real-time data values while in ride

  • Cumulative Fluid Loss (milliliters)
  • Cumulative Sodium Loss (milligrams)

r3-flowbiosweatdata-r320.png

Cumulative Fluid Loss and Sodium Loss for the ride is also recorded in the FIT file.

There is no post-ride data visualization of sweat data on an ELEMNT computer or in the Wahoo app. The hDrop sensor possesses its own onboard memory to store data and can independently sync data with its app after a ride.

ELEMNT completed ride data can be indirectly synced to your hDrop account for increased context for sweat analysis in the hDrop app by

  • Authorizing Apple Health or Android Health Connect in Wahoo app authorized apps AND
  • Authorizing a connection of hDrop to Apple Health or Android Health Connect

See Authorize an app partner to sync routes, planned workouts, completed rides, or segments and hDrop Data Integrations for details on how to make the connections.

Requirements

Pre-ride setup

A Bluetooth connection must be made between the hDrop sensor and hDrop app to initiate an activity recording, before disconnecting the sensor from the hDrop app in order for it to be connected to the ELEMNT computer.

In ride

A Bluetooth connection between the ELEMNT computer and the hDrop hydration sensor must be maintained to present data to display on the ELEMNT and be recorded in the FIT file.

Post-ride review

The hDrop sensor must be disconnected from the ELEMNT app and reconnected to the hDrop app to sync data directly to the hDrop app.  The ELEMNT will automatically disconnect from the sensor for 15 minutes whenever a ride is ended.

Set up your hDrop sweat sensor

  1. Set up your hDrop hydration sensor with the hDrop app.

  2. Link your Wahoo app to Apple Health or Android Health Connect and Apple Health/Android Health Connect to the hDrop app to allow for properly contextualized analysis in the hDrop app post-ride.

  1. Turn on your ELEMNT computer.  Your hDrop sensor should connect automatically (provided you have completed the steps above.

  2. Wear the hDrop sensor according to its placement guidelines and confirm it shows as connected on the ELEMNT and the selected data fields are showing data.

During a ride

Data is processed by the sensor on three minute intervals, so Fluid Loss and Sodium Loss data will appear after ~3 minutes and update on ~ 3 minute intervals thereafter.

Data values are only recorded to the FIT file while the computer is un-paused. Data transmitted during a pause will not be recorded to the FIT file.

  • Fluid Loss will present your cumulative fluid loss in milliliters to that point in the ride on a white background.

  • Sodium Loss will present your cumulative sodium loss in milligrams to that point in the ride on a white background.

After a ride

There is currently no post-ride data on ELEMNT or in Wahoo app for hydration or sweat analysis.

Aggregated Fluid Loss and Sodium Loss for the ride is recorded in the FIT file.

The hDrop possesses its own onboard memory to store hydration data and can independently sync data with its app after a ride.

When ride is complete/saved, the ELEMNT will automatically disconnect from the hDrop sensor for 15 minutes to allow you to manually reconnect the hDrop sensor with it’s app for data syncing, without requiring you to forget/unpair the sensor.

Note: This 15 minute disconnection can be overridden by accessing the hDrop’s sensor details page and selecting Connect.

  1. Re-open hDrop app and select Use with hDrop App, to reconnect.

  2. Sync hDrop sensor with hDrop app.

FIT files of rides completed on ELEMNT can also be indirectly synced to your hDrop account for increased context for sweat analysis in the hDrop app by

Syncing your ELEMNT ride data is NOT required for hydration data analysis in the hDrop app.

Ensure your ride has been synced to the Wahoo Cloud from your ELEMNT via the Wahoo app or direct via Wi-Fi.  Your ride should automatically share from Wahoo > Apple Health/Android Health Connect > hDrop, but if it does not, you can manually trigger a sync to from Wahoo > Apple Health or Android Health Connect via the Sharing panel of the ride’s Activity Details page in the Wahoo app (History > activity > Activity Details > … > Sharing > Apple Health / Health Connect > Share.

Notes

  • hDrop is BTLE only, NOT BTLE multi-peripheral

  • Fluid Loss and Sodium Loss are calculated on 3 min intervals.

  • The hDrop sensor will timeout connections within 60 seconds when no activity is in progress and within 60 mins of sensing user inactivity.

  • The hDrop sensor can only connect to one device via Bluetooth at a time.

    • You must connect sensor to the hDrop app > start recording > disconnect hDrop app > connect ELEMNT > start ride > ride > end ride >  ELEMNT auto-disconnects for 15 minutes > connect hDrop app > sync sensor data to hDrop app. See Sensor management immediately below.

Sensor management

In order to transmit data from the sensor to the hDrop app, you must connect to the app, initiate data recording in the app, then break the Bluetooth connection between the hDrop app and hDrop sensor in order for the ELEMNT to connect to the hDrop sensor and display/record data during a ride.

In the case that you forget to start the recording in the app before your ELEMNT connects to the hDrop sensor, you can temporarily disconnect the sensor by accessing its sensor details page and selecting Disconnect. You can then complete the app’s start recording process, and then select Connect to reconnect the sensor.

r3-hdrop-connect-r320.png

Once a ride is completed, you must break the connection between the ELEMNT and the hDrop sensor in order to be able to sync your hydration data from the hDrop sensor to the hDrop app. To assist with this process, the ELEMNT computer will automatically disconnect from the hDrop sensor for 15 minutes after a ride is ended. You can then manually reconnect the hDrop sensor to the hDrop app and sync your data.

If you have to end a ride before you intended to do so, you can override this 15 minute temporary disconnection by accessing the hDrop’s sensor details page and selecting Connect.
