When paired to a FLOWBIO sweat sensor, your ELEMNT computer is able to present the two following sweat data values while in-ride:
- Cumulative Fluid Loss (milliliters)
- Cumulative Sodium Loss (milligrams)
Cumulative Fluid Loss and Sodium Loss for the ride is also recorded in the FIT file.
There is no post-ride data visualization of sweat data on an ELEMNT computer or in the Wahoo app.
The FLOWBIO sensor possesses its own onboard memory to store data and will independently sync data with its app after a ride. The FIT file from your ride is also used by FLOWBIO to contextualize the sweat data. Your Wahoo Cloud account can be linked to your FLOWBIO account in your FLOWBIO app to allow for post-ride activity sync from Wahoo to the FLOWBIO app. The FLOWBIO app will merge the data from the FIT file and the FLOWBIO sensor memory to provide analysis.
Cumulative Fluid Loss and Sodium Loss for the ride is recorded into the FIT file, but no third party app platforms currently support data display.
Requirements
- ELEMNT ACE, BOLT 3, or ROAM 3, updated to current firmware
- minimum 302533
- Wahoo app on the latest version
- minimum 6.86.1 (iOS) / 6.86.0 (Android)
-
FLOWBIO S1 sweat sensor
BTLE and ANT+, BTLE multi-peripheral 2x.
- A bicycle power source (power meter or smart trainer) OR a heart rate monitor paired to the ELEMNT computer
In ride
For data to be displayed on the computer and recorded in the FIT file, an active Bluetooth connection between your ELEMNT computer and the FLOWBIO sweat sensor must be maintained.
Post-ride review
To review sweat data in the FLOWBIO app after a ride:
- Sweat data recorded/stored on the FLOWBIO sensor must be synced via Bluetooth to the FLOWBIO app.
-
Ride data recorded on the ELEMNT computer must be synced via Wi-Fi or the Wahoo app to the Wahoo Cloud, and then on to the FLOWBIO app. To accomplish this
A Wahoo and FLOWBIO Cloud account connection must be established in FLOWBIO app.
Your ride must be synced to the Wahoo Cloud as normal via Wi-Fi or the Wahoo app.
Set up your FLOWBIO sweat sensor
Set up your FLOWBIO sweat sensor with the FLOWBIO app. See FLOWBIO’s Instruction Manual for more details.
Link your Wahoo account to your FLOWBIO account in the FLOWBIO app to allow for properly contextualized analysis in the FLOWBIO app post-ride.
Awaken the FLOWBIO sensor.
-
Pair your FLOWBIO sensor with the ELEMNT computer.
ELEMNT > Ready To Ride > Pair Sensor OR
ELEMNT > Settings > Sensors > Pair Sensor
For more details on pairing sensors to ELEMNT computers, see Pair a sensor to an ELEMNT ACE or ROAM 3 or Pair a sensor to an ELEMNT BOLT 3.
-
Add the Fluid Loss or Sodium Loss data fields to your preferred workout profile(s).
Wahoo app > Devices tab > Select your ELEMNT device > Workout profiles > Select your chosen workout profile > Pages > Select your chosen data page > add/replace data field > Sweat analysis > Fluid Loss or Sodium Loss
For more details on customizing data fields on ELEMNT computers, see Customize workout profiles and pages for ELEMNT ACE, BOLT 3, or ROAM 3.
Ensure your ELEMNT device is connected to the Wahoo app to sync any data field changes.
Wear the FLOWBIO sensor according to its placement guidelines and confirm it shows as connected on your ELEMNT device before starting your ride.
Begin your ride. Your selected data fields will appear in real-time on the configured page once the FLOWBIO sensor begins streaming data.
Use your FLOWBIO sweat sensor
Before a ride
Ensure you have enabled data fields for sweat data in your chosen workout profile.
Ensure that your power meter is paired and connected to the ELEMNT computer.
Awaken the FLOWBIO sensor by pressing the button before confirming it is connected to your computer.
Hold the button on the FLOWBIO for 2 seconds to start of a data recording session on the FLOWBIO sensor. and then start a ride on the ELEMNT.
During a ride
Either of the selected data fields will appear as long as data as transmitting. Data values are only recorded to the activity file while the computer is un-paused. Data transmitted during a pause will not be recorded to the activity file.
Fluid Loss will present your cumulative fluid loss in milliliters to that point in the ride on a white background.
Sodium Loss will present your cumulative sodium loss in milligrams to that point in the ride on a white background.
Fluid Loss will take at least 10 minutes to initially appear on the computer.
Sodium Loss will generally take 10-20 minutes to initially appear, and may not appear at all, depending on the composition of your sweat.
Once sweat data appears, the sensor will update the computer on 1 minute intervals.
After a ride
There is currently no post-ride data on ELEMNT or in Wahoo app for sweat analysis. The FLOWBIO sensor possesses its own onboard memory to store sweat data and will independently sync data with its app after a ride.
End a data recording session on the sensor by ending the ride on an ELEMNT or holding the button on the FLOWBIO sensor for 2 seconds.
Ensure your ride has been synced to the Wahoo Cloud from your ELEMNT via the Wahoo app or direct via Wi-Fi
Sync the FLOWBIO sensor with the FLOWBIO app and wait a few minutes and the ride should be available for sweat analysis in the FLOWBIO app.
The FIT file data synced from your ELEMNT is required in order to get sweat analysis in the FLOWBIO app.
Notes
FLOWBIO is BTLE and ANT+, BTLE multi-peripheral 2x.
FLOWBIO requires a power meter/smart trainer/BIKE (cycling power source) OR HRM paired to ELEMNT in order to display/record sweat metrics.
FLOWBIO has onboard data storage and syncs directly to FLOWBIO app, but requires FIT data from ride/Cloud sync for app to provide analysis.
Troubleshooting
FLOWBIO sensor does not pair with your device
Ensure that the FLOWBIO sensor is awake and pairs to its own app.
-
Ensure your ELEMNT firmware and Wahoo app are up to date.
For details on how to update ELEMNT firmware, see Update firmware on ELEMNT ACE, BOLT 3, or ROAM 3.
