Music control [ELEMNT]

Second generation ELEMNT computers can control native music apps on your phone.  A Music Control Page is added to the end of the page stack when the computer detects a podcast, music, or video playing.  The ELEMNT will not switch to that page automatically.

You can play/pause the audio track, adjust volume, and skip/fast forward/rewind.

Compatibility

  • ACE, ROAM 3, BOLT 3, BOLT v2, or ROAM v2

Requirements

  • ELEMNT ACE, ROAM 3, BOLT 3, BOLT v2, or ROAM v2 on current firmware version
  • Companion app (ELEMNT app or Wahoo app) on current version
  • Companion app must be allowed permission to display notifications on the lock screen.
  • An active connection must be maintained between the app and the ELEMNT device for the duration of your ride.

Audio Apps Supported

The feature uses the phone's operating system music service, so the great majority of music/podcasting apps should be supported. Any noted exceptions will be listed below.

Enable the feature

  1. Ensure that your ELEMNT device's firmware is up to date.
  2. Ensure that your device's companion app is installed and up to date.
  3. Ensure your ELEMNT device is paired / actively connected to its companion app.

Podcasts

Podcasts use the same button controls as music control, except that the Skip / Back buttons may skip OR fast forward/rewind 15-30 second intervals, depending on the music/podcast app defaults.

Troubleshooting

If the music control page does not appear on your device as expected, please confirm that:

  1. Your device's firmware is up to date.
  2. Your device's companion app is allowed permission to display notifications.
  3. Your device's companion app is not affected by any battery optimization settings which may limit its permissions when running in the background.

For iOS devices

If the Spotify app is installed on your iOS device, please ensure that Bluetooth permission is disabled under Apps > Spotify

Even if you are using a different media app, this Spotify setting can still disrupt notifications.

Turning off this setting does not prevent the use of Bluetooth headphones.

For Android devices

To fully enable notifications, Android users may need to turn on notification access under Settings > Apps > Special Access > Notification access.
