Sync / download third party routes to ELEMNT computers

You can create a route to sync to your ELEMNT using RideWithGPS, Komoot*, Strava, or TrailForks. Routes can be synced to the computer either over WiFi or Bluetooth.

Compatibility

  • All ELEMNT GPS Bike Computers

Requirements

Sync / Download your 3rd party app route library over WiFi

1. Connect the ELEMNT to Wi-Fi

  1. With the ELEMNT on, open the ELEMNT app.
  2. On the Settings tab of the ELEMNT app select WiFi Network.
  3. Select your network and enter the password to authenticate the ELEMNT.

For additional help, see Connect ELEMNT to Wi-Fi.

2. Link your 3rd party account to your Wahoo account

In the ELEMNT app:

  1. Select the Profile tab, then Authorized apps.
  2. Select the 3rd party routing app your wish to sync routes from (ex RideWithGPS, Komoot, Strava, or Trailforks)
  3. Enter your username / password or authenticate your account with the 3rd party app as prompted

3. Sync your 3rd party account route library

  • Komoot: All planned tours
  • RideWithGPS: All pinned routes + routes you have created or saved in your RideWithGPS account
  • Strava: All starred routes + routes you have created or saved in your Strava account
  • Trailforks: Routes, Rideplans (user-created routes), and Ridelogs as found in the "My Wishlist Routes" tab of the Trailforks mobile app.

On the ELEMNT itself,

  1. Navigate to the Map page.
  2. Select Routes (three dots [...] if using BOLT v2 or ROAM v2, then Routes)
  3. Select SYNC to begin syncing the route libraries of whatever 3rd party services you have linked in step # # 2.

Your route library will then load onto the Routes page of the ELEMNT.  You can sort them by name, proximity, and other. If sorted by Proximity, and your ELEMNT does not have a GPS lock, no routes will be shown.

Sync a single route over Bluetooth

2. Sync a single route from the ELEMNT app via Bluetooth

With your ELEMNT connected to the ELEMNT App, in the ELEMNT app:

  1. Select the Workout tab.
  2. Select Choose a route
  3. Select your desired route.
  4. Select Select route.

A status screen should appear with 'Route loading'.  'Route loaded' will appear on the ELEMNT screen.

Notes / Troubleshooting

  • If using an ELEMNT or BOLT v1, you will only get Turn by Turn notifications for routes created in RideWithGPS and Komoot. Strava and Trail Forks routing software does not produce Turn by Turn text cues.
  • Your computer must be paired and actively connected to the ELEMNT app to sync/load the route from the ELEMNT app onto the computer via Bluetooth.
  • Routes that can be synced from a third party service like Komoot, RideWithGPS, or Strava can often also be downloaded as files.
  • If the route is synced to your Wahoo account from your account with the third party service, route name, details, and deletion must be managed in the third party service app / web interface. ALL routes linked to your third party account, including
    1. routes you have created,
    2. routes you have saved to your account, or
    3. routes you have pinned (RideWithGPS) or starred (Strava)

will be synced to your Wahoo account and the computer. In order to remove them, you will need to remove them from the third party account by un-pinning/un-starring or deleting the route from your third party account.

  • If you export the route to a file, download the file, and import it as described above into the Wahoo app, it can be renamed in / deleted from your Wahoo account.
  • Komoot users without a premium subscription can only sync routes that are either located in their 'free' local region, or other regions which they have unlocked (paid for).  To confirm what regions you have unlocked, see komoot.com/account/regions.
