This article describes the steps to pair an ELEMNT computer to the ELEMNT app outside of the guided first time pairing process. For that process, just follow the on-screen directions.
Requirements
- An ELEMNT, BOLT, or ROAM computer
- A phone capable of running the current version of the ELEMNT companion app.
- Phone Bluetooth enabled
- A viable phone camera lens
- A Wahoo account profile (username/password) [free]
Steps to pair
Pairing an ELEMNT computer to the ELEMNT companion app requires actions both on the ELEMNT computer and in the ELEMNT app on your phone.
On the ELEMNT computer
- Navigate to the Menu screen (tap the left side button).
- Scroll down to Pair phone (right side buttons).
- Select Pair Phone (middle button).
- A large QR code should appear on screen. Set the ELEMNT on a flat surface.
ELEMNT app for iOS
- Open the ELEMNT app.
- Navigate to the Settings tab.
- Select Add new device or Pair a device as it appears.
- The app will turn on your phone's camera. Hold the phone above the ELEMNT so that the QR code is fully visible in the ELEMNT app. Move the phone closer or farther away as necessary.
- Select Pair to authorize the phone to pair with the ELEMNT when prompted.
- Select Allow to authorize the ELEMNT to receive notifications when prompted.
- The ELEMNT is now paired and will return to the Settings tab.
ELEMNT app for Android
- Open the ELEMNT app.
- Navigate to the Settings tab.
- Select Devices in the top right corner.
- Select the (+) add icon in the bottom right corner.
- The app will turn on your phone's camera. Hold the phone above the ELEMNT so that the QR code is fully visible in the ELEMNT app. Move the phone closer or farther away as necessary.
- The ELEMNT is now paired.
- Select the X icon in the upper left corner to return to the Settings tab.
Troubleshooting
- Move the phone camera farther from the ELEMNT. Often the correct distance is farther than feels natural.
- Make sure your mobile device's camera is clean and clearly focused on the computer.
- Keep the ELEMNT's screen clear of reflections and debris.
- Toggle your phone's Bluetooth off for 10 seconds and then back on from the iOS Settings > Bluetooth or Android Settings > Connections > Bluetooth, NOT the Quick tray controls.
- Restart the ELEMNT and force close and re-open the ELEMNT app.
- If your computer has been paired to this app, but is not actively connected, follow all steps in the Forget / unpair an ELEMNT, BOLT, or ROAM from the ELEMNT app / phone article, and then re-pair using the full steps provided above in this article.
- Confirm that your ELEMNT computer is broadcasting a Bluetooth signal by downloading the LightBlue app from PunchThrough for iOS or Android. The LightBlue app is a Bluetooth scanner that will show any available Bluetooth connections in the area of the phone.
iOS specific notes
- It may be necessary to forget and repair your ELEMNT after an iOS update to re-establish a connection.
- On iOS 13: A new prompt to allow Bluetooth for individual apps was added to this iOS version, separately from the iPhone's main Bluetooth settings. If experiencing continued pairing issues, check the following:

- Scroll down to select ELEMNT.
- Ensure that Bluetooth is toggled on.
-
Last resort -- Reset your iPhone's network connections -- This will reset all Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections.
