ELEMNT Frozen, stuck, locked-up, rebooting, or wholly unresponsive

Stuck, frozen, locked up, or otherwise on, but unresponsive

Forced reboot

Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to perform a forced reboot. e.g. Generally used if the screen becomes non-responsive.

Full power cycle

Should the issue remain after a forced reboot, allow the unit to die completely then charge for 1-2 hours

Factory reset

(option of last resort): accessible from the ELEMNT/BOLT's Settings page, then System Info, this option restores all settings to factory defaults.
Warning:
a factory reset will delete all workouts stored on the device (routes, however, will remain)

If this doesn't solve the issue, try charging the ELEMNT/BOLT using a wall outlet for 1 hour or more.

Reboots continuously in a loop

The 2 most common causes of this issue are battery-related update failures or a stuck power switch. Solutions are provided below:

  • Battery-related update failures: In rare cases, an update can cause a reboot loop on low battery. Try charging the ELEMNT/BOLT using a wall outlet for 1 hour or more. Avoid using Apple brand USB blocks, as some do not provide a full charge. After 1 hour, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds.
  • Stuck power switch: Should the issue continue beyond charging and removing a ride file, the the power switch is likely the culprit. Reboots occurring roughly every 10 seconds confirm this issue. To fix, instead of pressing the power button directly in, try pressing it at an angle to free it from its internal housing.

Completely unresponsive (battery appears dead)

If your computer won't respond when you press and hold the power button on the left side, attach it to a tested and known functional USB-A wall charging block (producing 5Volts, 2+Amps), installed in a tested and known functional wall outlet and leave it to charge for at least 30 minutes before attempting to turn it on.  If it's still unresponsive, try a different tested charging cable, with a different charging block, in a different outlet. If it is still unresponsive, please submit a support request and our support team will happily assist you.

Notes on charging

For best results

For ELEMNT, BOLT v1 and v2, and ROAM v1 computers, use a non-Apple branded wall charger unit producing 5 volts and 2+ amps.  Chargers below 2 amps may be insufficient to charge the unit in some conditions.
For ROAM v2 units, again ensure the charger is producing at least 2 amps.

Apple Chargers

Older Apple USB-A chargers are not suitable chargers for ELEMNT computers because they either [1] only output 1 amp overall, which may be insufficient to charge the computer in certain conditions, or [2] possess internal safety circuitry that throttles power output to .5 Amps if the receiving device is not an Apple product, which is insufficient to charge the computer.

Newer Apple chargers may or may not produce similar issues. To ensure there isn't any issue, we suggest non-Apple chargers.

BOLT v2

Because of the period in which they were developed, despite having a USB-C charging port interface, early production BOLT v2 computers lack a voltage limiter in the unit, and so require either [1] a USB-A > C charging cable attached to a USB-A wall charger or a 'smart' charging source like a laptop to charge.  Later production BOLT v2 units and ROAM v2 model computers do not share this limitation.
