Mental Capacity Assessments

A New Way To Track Your Mental Capacity

The Wahoo app now offers a mental capacity assessment that tracks your cognitive and emotional readiness to perform, giving you deeper insight into your overall Training Capacity. Think of it as understanding not just your physical state, but your mental readiness too.

The assessment can be completed once a day in the Wahoo app on versions 6.73.0 or newer.

You will receive a score for the day once you have completed the assessment (after completing at least four assessments). Each day you will have to retake the assessment to receive a new score.

Training Capacity Impact

Mental Capacity can impact Training Capacity by up to ±12 points.

Calibration

  • Your first 3 assessments are used for calibration. You will receive a personalized score (ranging from -100 to +100) upon completion of your 4th assessment.  After 30 assessments, your score will be fully calibrated to your unique baseline. Your Mental Capacity also affects your Training Capacity, giving you an even more accurate measure of your readiness to train.
  • Mental fatigue is real. Stress, sleep, focus, readiness - they all impact how you perform. Now you can track it, understand it, and train smarter because of it. Whether you're fresh and firing or need a recovery day, you'll know where you stand.

Launching Assessments

  • Go/NoGo Assessment: The assessment starts with a Go/NoGo task which measures your cognitive state through both reaction time and response inhibition.

  • The instructions shows on the first completed assessment. After that they can be found again by tapping “View Instructions” when the assessment is counting in.

  • You should tap as fast as you can whenyou see blue, and don’t touch on red - simply waiting until the shape disappears

  • You will be shown 40 shapes, 10 of which (randomly placed) will be red NoGo stimuli.

  • Emotional Survey: This uses a survey influenced by the NASA TLX Scale to understand your emotional state.

  • We ask for your subjective feelings of Rest, Readiness, Stress and Frustration.

  • All are on a 0-100 scale, and have cue phrases attached to them to help you find the right level.

  • Once the assessment is complete, we build a picture of what is typical for you and compare against.

  • Mental Capacity Score and Results

  • After 4 Assessments have been complete, the assessment is calibrated and you receive a score on a -100 (drained) to +100 (peak) scale with 0 being their baseline or 'normal'.

  • The score uses the following datapoints:

    • Trained Reaction Time (average reaction time from reactions between 100-500ms)

    • Lapses (Number of reactions slower than 500ms)

    • Misses (Complete misses, false starts, or tapping on NoGo)

    • Subjective Level of Rest

    • Subjective Level of Readiness

    • Subjective Level of Stress

    • Subjective Level of Frustration

  • This is a highly personalized scoring system which builds a picture of what is typical for you. It improves over the first 30 assessments at which point we have established a rolling baseline.
