ELEMNT, BOLT, and ROAM FAQ

Device Specifications + Compatibility

What is the screen size / resolution / color options of ELEMNT, BOLT, or ROAM?

  • ELEMNT: 2.7 in / 240x400 px / Black & white
  • BOLT v1: 2.2 in / 240x320px / Black & white
  • BOLT v2: 2.2 in / 240x320px / 64 colors
  • ROAM v1: 2.7 in / 240x400px / 8 colors
  • ROAM v2: 2.7 in / 240x40px / 64 colors

Are ELEMNT, BOLT, or ROAM waterproof?

ELEMNT computers have an IPX 7 waterproof rating:

IPX-7 Waterproof Standard

Protected against short durations of water immersion. Max immersion for less than 30 minutes and at a depth of less than 1 meter. IPX-7, while water resistant, is still not recommended for swimmers, as a precaution.

Will an ELEMNT, BOLT, or ROAM work with my Garmin mount?

No. Though similar in shape, ELEMNT computers are not compatible with Garmin mounts and using them directly with Garmin mounts will damage the computer's mount interface. ELEMNT computers have their  own range of mounts. The ELEMNT comes with 3 mounts in the box:

  • Stem
  • Out-Front
  • Aero

Additionally Barfly, K-Edge, and KOM cycling are making Wahoo compatible mounts. K-Edge and other manufacturers also make adapter “pucks” that can transform some Garmin Mounts to be safe for use with ELEMNT computers.

Battery + Charging + Power management

What is the battery life of ELEMNT, BOLT, or ROAM?

Rated Battery Life at Maximum Efficiency

  • ELEMNT: 16 hours
  • BOLT v1/v2: 15 hours
  • ROAM v1/v2: 17 hours

To improve battery life, consider toggling the following features by pressing the left side MENU button on the ELEMNT, BOLT, or ROAM itself:

  • Backlight and LEDs both stress the battery and can be disabled if not needed.
  • If you're riding indoors, setting the ELEMNT, BOLT, or ROAM to INDOOR mode will disable GPS for further savings.
  • Disabling sensors saves battery as each sensor uses energy to communicate data.

Can I remove the battery?

ELEMNT computers have a rechargeable lithium ion battery that is fully sealed to meet IPX7 waterproofing specifications.  Original ELEMNT computers had a replaceable battery, but replacement batteries are no longer available.

Both BOLT and ROAM versions do not have replaceable batteries. The units are thermally sealed and the batteries are hardwired to the motherboard.

What charger and charging cable do I need for ELEMNT, BOLT, or ROAM?

Ideally, you should charge with a non-Apple* wall charger brick, producing more than 2.1 amps using:.

  • ELEMNT: a USB-A to USB-Micro B cable
  • BOLT v1: a USB-A to USB-Micro B cable
  • ROAM v1: a USB-A to USB-Micro B cable
  • BOLT v2: a USB-A to USB-C cable (due to chipset limitations at time of production, USB-C > C charging is not possible)
  • ROAM v2: a USB-C to USB-C cable

*Apple branded chargers and those designed for Apple products often include a safety circuit which can disrupt the charging of non-Apple devices, resulting in temporary issues, including incomplete charging or start up issues.

Does ELEMNT, BOLT, or ROAM support auto-shutdown?

Yes. Though the device is normally powered off by holding the left-side power button down then selecting YES to confirm, in order to save battery the ELEMNT/BOLT/ROAM will also beep, flash the LEDs, and start a 10 second coundown timer to power off automatically after 15 minutes* of inactivity (by default) when not in a workout.

*The inactivity period is customizable under Auto shutdown on the Settings tab of the ELEMNT app while the computer is actively connected to the app.

Features / Functions

Can an ELEMNT, BOLT, or ROAM measure temperature?

ELEMNT computers have a thermistor that measures temperature during your workout, but because it is not a precision thermometer and located inside the unit, it occasionally may display temperatures that differ from the true temperature of your surroundings. For example, this may occur when the device is placed in direct sunlight, is being charged via an external battery, or subject to sudden changes in temperature.

ELEMNT App + Settings

Do I need to have my phone with me while using an ELEMNT computer?

Though the ELEMNT, BOLT, or ROAM does not require a phone to record data, certain features outlined below require pairing through the iOS or Android companion app on a supported device:

  • Call and text notifications
  • Live tracking
  • Page configuration
  • Post ride data downloading and sharing

For more information, please see the Wireless Connectivity for ELEMNT, BOLT, and ROAM article.

How do I change the units of measure?

You can change the units of measure for your computer under Units on the Profile tab of the ELEMNT app when actively connected to your computer.

Sharing

Can I share my workouts with other apps?

ELEMNT computers are able to share completed ride data with a number of compatible third party apps by linking account credentials in the ELEMNT app > Profile > Authorized/Connected apps.
