Wahoo Fitness App
ERG mode
Our personal favorite - intervals have never been easier (or harder)! Set your desired power and watch as the KICKR adjusts to keep you honest during training. If your cadence drops, the KICKR will increase the resistance to maintain a constant power output, regardless of speed. It's the ultimate way to train - with power! Click here for more info.
LEVEL mode
With Level mode you can modify the nominal grade in .5% increments and the app will provide resistance accounting for your weight as entered into your profile to simulate riding that grade outdoors. When using this mode, ensure your weight and tire size is properly set in the KICKR's sensor details for accurate power calculations.
PASSIVE mode
In Passive mode, the Wahoo app can connect to multiperipheral trainers (KICKR v4 and later, CORE, and BIKEs) and passively record your output when completing your workout in a third party app (Zwift, TrainerRoad, Rouvy, etc).
Note - SYSTM workouts are already present in, and Zwift rides can now be uploaded to your unified Wahoo activity history. Speed/distance as recorded in the Wahoo app may also differ from what is recorded in the 3rd party app as it may be calculated differently, based on power, etc.
SYSTM
If you're using a smart trainer, you can choose to use ERG mode or Level mode to complete your workouts. In ERG mode, you only need to focus on the cadence target. The trainer will do the work to keep you at your target interval. There's no need to shift gears (mostly). This article will teach you everything you need to know about ERG mode: A Guide to using ERG mode
Level Mode will also be a requirement for smart trainers for some workouts. Users with classic (non-smart) trainers, will use the gears on their bikes to increase the resistance and match the power targets, much like smart trainer users in Level Mode. Third Party Apps
Wahoo smart trainers will work out of the box with a variety of 3rd party apps. Here is a comparison chart. A few of the most popular are below:
Zwift
Zwift is the first company to use massive multiplayer gaming technology to bring the outdoor cycling experience indoors. Athletes from around the globe can ride with each other in rich 3D generated worlds simply by connecting their existing devices (e.g. trainers, power meters, heart rate monitors, etc) wirelessly via open Industry standard ANT+ or BLE. From structured workouts and training plans to friendly competition and casual group rides, Zwift is building a community of like-minded athletes united in the pursuit of a better indoor cycling experience.
TrainerRoad
TrainerRoad.com is an online community focused on providing cyclists incredible structured workouts and training programs. Check out www.trainerroad.com for more information
Wahoo ELEMNT GPS computers
ELEMNT computers (ELEMNT, BOLT, and ROAM) can control all Wahoo smart trainers in the same ways that the Wahoo app can (+ an additional Route mode). For more details, click the link in the heading above.
Any ANT+ FE-C equipped head unit
The KICKR broadcasts speed and power (wattage) via ANT+. Any ANT+ enabled bike computer, such as a Garmin Edge, will be able to read the data from your KICKR. Any ANT+ FE-C head unit can also control the KICKR and adjust resistance.
