Connect an ELEMNT to a desktop/laptop computer

ELEMNT, BOLT, and ROAM support file transfer via MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) - a USB standard used by many cameras, MP3 players, and Android phones.  Connect an ELEMNT, BOLT, or ROAM that is currently on (not just charging) to your computer via a USB data cable to transfer completed workout files (in FIT format) and/or route files (in GPX or TCX format). Note: Please make sure you are using a USB data cable, as many USB cables only provide charging functionality.

Windows

The ELEMNT, BOLT, or ROAM will automatically show up in Windows Explorer and you can browse and transfer files similar to any other USB flash device.
Note: it may be necessary to copy files onto a PC before uploading to applications like Golden Cheetah; uploads directly from USB may fail.

Apple Mac (MacOS)

An MTP client app is required to copy files from ELEMNT.

Linux

Support for MTP is available via libmtp, which is generally included with popular desktop Linux distributions. On some systems, ELEMNT, BOLT, or ROAM may also appear on your Linux desktop's file manager.

File locations

On the ELEMNT, BOLT, or ROAM, workouts are found in the exports folder, while routes are stored in the routes folder. You can identify the file you were looking for by the date they were saved. Once you find the correct file, copy/paste or drag it from the computer folder to your desktop. You can then upload the files to Strava, TrainingPeaks, or other 3rd party sites individually.
