Live Track shows your current location (that of your ELEMNT ACE computer and the phone it is connected to), route traveled, and current ride data to anyone with an active Live Track link. The link opens a temporary portal to a private session hosted at www.wahooligan.com.
Requirements
- Your phone must have an active data (internet) connection.
- VPNs are not supported.
- If a data connection is lost, Live Track will resume when a data connection is regained.
- The ACE must have acquired a GPS lock to provide location.
-
The Wahoo app must be opened, but then can be backgrounded.
- The Wahoo app cannot be force closed.
- The Wahoo app must have battery optimization disabled.
- Your ELEMNT ACE computer must remain actively connected to the Wahoo app throughout the ride.
- Live Track must be enabled on the My account page of the Wahoo app.
- A new Live Track link must have been shared (manually or automatically)
Setup
- Select the profile icon in the upper left hand corner of the Today tab.
- Select Live Track.
- Ensure Live Track is toggled on.
Set an auto-share email target
- Select Auto-share.
- Select Add.
- Select Use email from Contacts to select from your phone's contact list OR
- Select the email address text box to bring up the keyboard to enter the email address.
- When a valid email address is entered, select Add.
Manually share a public link
- Select the Share Link button next to Public link.
- Select the messaging app you wish to use to share the link, or select Copy to copy the link to the clipboard to manually share using whatever method you would like.
- Send the link.
Note: Shared links will automatically expire after 12 hours of riding inactivity, so a new link will need to be shared manually before/after a new ride has been started.
Live Track statuses and automated error notifications
The Live Track panel and Live Track page will show the following statuses:
- Checking status -- as the page loads
- Ready -- Live Track is enabled, but a ride has not been started.
- Disabled -- if Live Track is toggled off
- Not permitted -- if an app permission is missing. See phone OS Settings > Apps > Wahoo app.
- Updated less than a minute ago -- when ride data has last been transmitted < 60s ago.
-
Updated X minutes ago -- when ride data has last been transmitted > 60 seconds and < 10 minutes ago.
- ELEMNT disconnected -- if ACE has been disconnected for > 10 minutes
- No Network connection -- if there is no internet/data connection available for > 10 minutes
If there is a lack of data connection and you attempt to send a public link, the error message below will appear.
Additionally, if the Wahoo app has been disconnected from our Cloud servers (due to a lost data connection) for more than 10 minutes, an alert will appear on the screen of the ACE, alerting you to check the Wahoo app Live Track page for more details as to the nature of the Live Track connection loss. This alert must be manually dismissed. If the Wahoo app regains cell data connection to our cloud servers, Live Track will resume automatically.
Troubleshooting
Your friend has a link but no live data.
- Have them refresh the page.
- Ensure they are using an auto-shared link, or a fresh public link.
- Public links expire after 12 hours of inactivity, so if it's not new, it may not be active.
- Check the status listed on the Live Track page (My Account > Live Track)
- Confirm the following:
- You have cell signal.
- The ACE shows as actively connected to the Wahoo app (solid phone icon in the status bar).
- The ACE shows that it has a GPS lock.
- The Wahoo app on your phone is open (or has been opened/is backgrounded and has not been force closed.)
- Battery optimization has been turned off for the Wahoo app.
- Background App Refresh has been turned on for the Wahoo app. O
- Ensure your Wahoo app has the remaining necessary permissions.
iOS
Android
- When you have time later to test, Completely forget and repair the ACE to the Wahoo app, and accept all requested permissions to ensure it has properly bonded to the app/phone.
- Contact our support team for further troubleshooting.
You have auto-share enabled, but no link has appeared in your friend's inbox.
- Make sure you, the sender, have cell service.
- Have them check their spam filter.
- Because Live Track emails are sent automatically, they often get flagged by spam filters. If you are unable to send or receive Live Track links via email, it has likely been moved to a spam folder.
- Send a manual link to test.
- If the manual link works, but they can't find the auto share link in spam, they may have unsubscribed from all emails from us (Wahoo) and so we are prevented from sending the email. Have them contact our support team to indicate they are not receiving desired LiveTrack emails and to have us check if they have been added to an unsubscribe list and to be removed from it.
