Alert controls
Control of visual and audio alert components differ between computer models and by alert/notifications feature. Alert/notification controls exist at three different levels:
| Volume / Mute | Device Notifications | Workout Profile Alerts |
-
Volume controls and temporary mute on the computer (ELEMNT ACE, BOLT 3, or ROAM 3)
- apply to all features on the computer at least for that ride
- are accessed through the ELEMNT ACE, BOLT 3, or ROAM 3 onboard Settings menus, Device Settings > Sounds
-
Notifications settings in the computer device settings in the Wahoo app
- apply to that computer, regardless of workout profile selected
- accessed through the Wahoo app > Devices >computer name >Settings
-
General, custom, and feature-specific alert settings in workout profile settings in the Wahoo app
- apply only to the workout profile for which the setting is selected
- can be set differently between Cycling and Indoor Cycling or a custom cycling profile
- will be the same for that workout profile (ex. Cycling) across all ELEMNT ACE, BOLT 3, or ROAM 3 computers linked to that Wahoo account.
- are accessed through the Wahoo app > Devices > computer name> Workout profiles
- for more details on workout profiles, see Customize workout profiles and pages for ELEMNT ACE, BOLT 3, or ROAM 3
- apply only to the workout profile for which the setting is selected
Volume controls and temporary mute on the computer
Left side (power button) > Device Settings
ACE and ROAM 3 have a speaker, which allows for variable volume control for spoken audio components and beeps. BOLT 3 has a fixed volume beeper. This difference is reflected in the Device Settings page of the computer immediately below
| ACE | ROAM 3 | BOLT 3 |
Volume control slider
ACE and ROAM 3 have a 4-level volume slider + mute status located on the right side of the screen. This is the master volume control for the device and will set the volume for all spoken audio and beeps related to alerts and notifications on the computer, except for the bike bell, which remains at a pre-defined volume level, even when the computer is muted. Whatever volume level is set here will remain the same until you change it again.
Because BOLT 3 has a fixed volume beeper, there is no volume adjustability.
Temporary category mute buttons
Three separate buttons to temporarily mute Notifications, Audio Alerts, and Custom Alerts are present under Sounds on the Device Settings page on ELEMNT ACE, BOLT 3, and ROAM 3.
These default to ON each time the computer is turned on (or a ride ended or a new ride started), because they function as a local override/mute button for each of the three categories of alerts that are set either in computer settings or workout profile settings in the Wahoo app. If the relevant category of alerts/notifications is turned off in the Wahoo app, this button being set to ON will not turn the sound ON for that alert type, but selecting the button to set it to OFF/Muted will turn the audio component of that alert type off for the current ride.
Bike Bell toggle
ACE and ROAM 3 have an independent toggle for the Bike Bell feature, allowing you to keep it on while all other sound is muted, or off when other alert sounds are enabled.
Notifications settings in the computer device settings in the Wahoo app
Wahoo app > Devices > computer name > Settings > Notifications
Each notification toggle type (messages, phone calls, or emails) is persistent across all workout profiles for the computer for which they are enabled.
- Messages -- from native messaging apps and Line, Signal, Telegram, WeChat, and WhatsApp
- Phone calls
- Emails
Notifications that are not manually dismissed will accumulate in a Notifications page accessed from the computer's Settings menu.
For more details, see Text, call, and email notifications for ELEMNT ACE, BOLT 3, and ROAM 3.
General and custom alert settings in workout profile settings in the Wahoo app
Wahoo app > Devices > computer name > Workout Profiles > workout profile name > Alerts or Planned workouts / Strava Live Segments / Summit Segments
General alert sound settings
Because Cycling and Indoor Cycling workout profiles can apply to ELEMNT computers or the activity recorder on the Wahoo app itself, settings exist for both situation. Settings that apply to ELEMNT are:
- General workout alert sounds -- toggle beeps on/off for ride state changes: started, paused, resumed, stopped, or ended.
-
Turn by turn navigation alert sounds -- toggle sounds on/off for turn by turn navigation alerts
- For ACE/ROAM 3 -- additional toggle between beeps and voice alerts (English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Dutch, Thai, Portuguese, or Chinese) as mirrored by your phone's language settings)
- NOTE: This is only a sound/audio toggle for turn by turn navigation alerts. It is not possible to disable the visual/text component of the navigation alert.
- Planned workout alert sounds -- toggle beeps on/off for planned workouts
Custom alert settings
See Custom alerts for ELEMNT ACE, BOLT 3, or ROAM 3.
Feature-specific alert settings in workout profile settings in the Wahoo app

Strava Live Segments
If you have a paid Strava account linked to your Wahoo account, (see Authorize an app partner to sync routes, planned workouts, completed rides, or segments) and Live Segments enabled, the following settings would apply:
- Automatic page change -- if enabled, the computer will automatically change the page to the Live Segments page as you reach the start of a segment you have starred.
- Alerts on other pages -- if enabled, a visual alert panel will persist at the bottom of other pages with key information related to your progress on the segment until a segment is complete
- Enable during planned workouts -- if enabled, the behavior described above will also occur when following a planned workout
Summit Segments
If you have Summit Segments enabled, the following settings would apply:
