The Workout Profiles model
Historically, ELEMNT GPS computers had a single set of customizable pages: a basic workout data page that could be duplicated, a customizable lap page, an elevation/climbing page with the ride's elevation profile and a few customizable fields, and a map page with a few customizable fields. These page customizations were stored on the computer.
With the launch of ELEMNT ACE and the transition to the Wahoo app, we have moved to a workout profiles model, providing a set of workout profiles, each of which contains the traditional set of pages you can customize. The workout profiles are stored in the Wahoo Cloud, linked to your Wahoo account, modified in the Wahoo app, and synced to the computer. This way, you can customize pages separately for each type of riding that you do -- training, racing, commuting, or joyriding -- and toggle between them with two taps on the touchscreen before starting your ride. Now you can set up one profile for your training rides, another for race days, and another for commuting, or the days where you don't need/want to see heart rate or power data.
You can name the profile for the ride type or the bike that you would intend to use with the profile.
These Workout Profiles are not bike profiles, per se, as ELEMNT computers automatically prioritize data from the first sensor of a given type that connects from the list of currently paired sensors. This means that you cannot manually associate/pre-select which sensor your computer will us for any given data type (speed, cadence, power) for a profile, but also ensures that you are never without data because the wrong sensor was selected.
The profiles also do not allow you to formally link a specific bike to a profile, or aggregate data about specific profiles to allow for bike maintenance records.
Because the profiles are managed in the Cloud, in order to add or remove workout profiles or make changes in workout profile data fields on an ELEMNT ACE in real time, the Wahoo app requires an active data connection to the internet, as well as an active Bluetooth connection to the ACE. We are working to allow local app-only profile/page changes without a data connection in a upcoming firmware update.
