An overly loose belt on a treadmill may slip or hesitate during use and an overly tight belt can put strain on the motor and other components. If improperly aligned, the belt may move to one side or another during use, causing uneven wear. The KICKR RUN's belt is precisely tensioned and aligned at the factory, but the belt can stretch with use over time, and alignment or tension may need to be adjusted.
We recommend checking the alignment and tension every 2-3 months, 150 mi // 250 km, or 25 hours of use, whichever comes first.
Aligning a KICKR RUN belt
The KICKR RUN's belt should be laterally centered on the deck. If noticeably off-center at either front or rear of the treadmill, the belt can be realigned by slightly adjusting the tension of one side of the front roller.
- 1. Ensure that the KICKR RUN is both turned off and unplugged from the wall outlet.
- Identify toward which side the belt has moved off-center.
- Locate the small hole on that side on the front of the treadmill (either directly above where the power cord connects on one side or above the white model number sticker on the other). See image below.
- Insert a 6mm hex key into the hole / tensioning bolt, and turn clockwise 1/4 turn to move the belt away from that side of the treadmill, and back toward the center.
- The belt comes precisely tensioned from the factory, and only very small increments are necessary to align the belt. At most, turn the wrench a 1/2 turn before testing the alignment.
- Plug the KICKR RUN back in, turn it back on, and then allow the belt to move/test its alignment by using the treadmill at a walking pace for at least 30 seconds.
- If a further adjustment is needed, repeat steps 1-5.
Tensioning a KICKR RUN belt
The KICKR RUN's belt comes precisely tensioned from the factory. Because of the belt's elasticity, it can function in a fairly wide range of tension without issue. If you are experiencing the belt slipping or hesitating, it may have stretched and should be re-tensioned.
- 1. Ensure that the KICKR RUN is both turned off and unplugged from the wall outlet
- Check the belt tension by attempting to lift it off the running deck, in the middle of the treadmill, just behind where the handrail stanchions meet the deck. There should be approximately 2 inches of movement at the edge with a minimal amount of force. If the belt can easily be
lifted higher, you will want to increase the tension. - Locate the small holes on the front of the treadmill (directly above where the power cord connects on one side and above the white model number sticker on the other).
- Insert a 6mm hex key into the hole / tensioning bolt, and turn clockwise 1/4 turn to increase the tension. Repeat this for the other side.
- The belt comes precisely tensioned from the factory, and only very small increments are necessary to align the belt. At most, turn the wrench a 1/2 turn before testing the tension.
- It is important to adjust tension evenly, so repeat for both sides to keep tension uniform.
- Plug the KICKR RUN back in, turn it back on, and then test by using the treadmill at a walking pace for at least 30 seconds.
- If a further adjustment is needed, repeat steps 1-5.
- If at any point you notice lateral mis-alignment, follow the steps above for aligning the belt before continuing. Check alignment when you have completed the tensioning to your satisfaction.
