How to Update Wahoo Smart Trainer Firmware (Android)

Note: the Wahoo Smart Trainer firmware can only be updated from iOS and Android devices. 

 

Wahoo updates your KICKR's firmware (a kind of software) frequently to deliver the best indoor training experience possible. Ensuring you have the latest firmware resolves many issues, keeping you cranking and on the podium.

 

Requirements:

  • Bluetooth® enabled Android device on 4.4 KitKat or newer
  • Active internet access over WiFi
  • The Wahoo Utility app

 

Update Steps:

Ensure Bluetooth is enabled in your Android settings and that your device is within 5 feet of the KICKR, then follow these steps to pair your KICKR:

 

With the Wahoo Utility app (note: not to be confused with the Wahoo Fitness app) open and the KICKR powered on, you should now be able to find the KICKR on the default "Discover Devices" page. Tap to connect once it appears.

Once connected, the app will show the firmware version in the first tile. If the firmware is not the latest version, you will see "Upgrade Required" in the tile and an "Upgrade Firmware" option just below the "Start Spindown" button.

Tap "Upgrade Firmware" then "Yes" to start the update process.

Leave the phone near the KICKR until the update is complete. If the update fails, restart the process by fully closing and reopening the Wahoo Utility app. You may also need to reboot the KICKR itself by disconnecting the power for 30 seconds, then reconnecting it.

The app will notify you once the firmware upgrade is complete. Your Wahoo KICKR is now updated to the latest firmware and ready to ride!
