Sensor management [Wahoo app]

All sensor management has moved from the Settings page to a drawer accessed from the bottom of the Home page or the bluetooth button at the top of the Record page. Sensors can be added, will provide connection status and any data being transmitted here, and can be selected as the chosen data source from this page.

The sensor drawer has three components:

  1. The workout profile selector at the top indicates the current workout profile selected, and the profile to which the data type panels just below are mapped.
  2. The data source panels, which contain all of the possible data types for the selected workout profile.  Each panel contains [1] the data type label, [2] any data currently being transmitted to the app from a connected sensor of that type, and [3] the name and Bluetooth® ID of the sensor selected as the data source for that data type.
If a compatible sensor is paired, connected, and selected, the name of the sensor selected for that data type will appear in the bottom of the panel, and any data of that type currently being transmitted by that sensor will appear in the middle of the panel. If no sensor is selected, no sensor name will be listed, and the data will show dashes -- .
  3. The My sensors list, which contain a list of all sensors you have paired to the app, regardless of which workout profile you currently have selected on panels. Each sensor panel will provide the sensor name and Bluetooth® ID, its connection status (Searching, Connecting, Connected, or Not found), and the sensor's selection status.  Any data types for which that sensor could be selected as a data source will appear in a box at the bottom of the panel.  If selected as the data source for a data type, that type will be highlighted in green, with a green dot beside it. If not actively selected, the box will be gray and without a dot.

Pair a sensor

To pair a sensor:

  1. Open the sensor drawer and select the plus (+) button to the right of My Sensors.
  2. Make sure your sensor (heart rate monitor, speed sensor, cadence sensor, power meter, smart trainer, or smart bike) is awake and then wait for it to appear in the list of available sensors.
  3. Select the sensor from the available list.
  4. You will see the sensor has been paired. Select Done.

The sensor will then appear in the My sensors list and will show its connection status (Searching, Connecting, Connected, or Not found).

Key sensor information

Key sensor information, including the full device name (with Bluetooth ID in hexadecimal format), firmware version, serial number, registration status, and ANT+ ID (in decimal format) are shown in on the Sensor information page found on the sensor details page.

Register a sensor/device

Wahoo device registration occurs automatically by pairing your sensor to the Wahoo app for the first time. You can confirm registration status by selecting the sensor and then selecting Sensor information on the sensor details page.

Please retain your original proof of purchase (physical receipt or web invoice) as this is required to pursue warranty claims.

Select a sensor as a data source

A newly paired sensor will show as Connected and be set as a data source for any of the data types for which it could be selected. You can change the data source for a given data type by tapping a data source panel at the top of the drawer and selecting a compatible sensor from the list that appears. Alternately, you can de-select a data type at the bottom of a sensor panel in the My sensors list and select that data type under another sensor.

Data source selections for a given workout profile will persist until they are changed.

Forget a sensor

Once paired, you can forget or delete a sensor from the app by:

  1. Selecting the sensor in the My sensors list,
  2. Scrolling to the bottom of the sensor details page,
  3. Selecting Forget Sensor, and
  4. Confirming Forget sensor.

Update sensor firmware

When a sensor is paired, the app will check the sensor's firmware against the firmware server for the current version. If the sensor's firmware is not current, Update available will appear under the sensor name in the My sensors list.

  1. Select the sensor and open the sensor details page.
  2. Update Firmware will appear under the sensor name.
  3. Ensure that the sensor is only connected to the Wahoo app on your phone or tablet (and not also to Zwift, TrainerRoad, or another app on another device) and that your phone is not paired to any other Bluetooth® devices (including headphones or smartwatches) and then
  4. Select Update Firmware and follow directions to update the sensor firmware.

Because the firmware is updated via Bluetooth®, which is a low-bandwidth protocol, please understand the update process will take several minutes.

You can always check the currently installed firmware version by scrolling to the bottom of the sensor details page where the version number and its status -- (Old or Latest) will be listed.

Connect a Wahoo smart trainer/smart bike to Wi-Fi

Once paired, if a sensor is capable of a Wi-Fi connection (KICKR BIKE v2, BIKE SHIFT, KICKR v6, and KICKR MOVE), you will be prompted to connect the trainer to a 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi network for the fastest possible connection to certain third party apps and over-the-air firmware updates.

  1. Select the sensor and the panel labeled Wi-Fi,
  2. Select your compatible 2.4 Ghz network, running on channel 1-9 from the list,
  3. Enter your credentials, and
  4. Select Connect.

Once connected, you can confirm the connection details, change networks, or update network passwords by selecting that Wi-Fi panel again.

Calibrate a Wahoo smart trainer

For those Wahoo smart trainers (KICKR CORE and KICKR SNAP) that require regular spindown calibrations, the spindown calibration menu is accessed by selecting the Perform spindown button at the bottom of the sensor details page for the trainer in the My sensors list. Just follow the directions on screen.

Update firmware on / Calibrate a POWRLINK Zero pedal set

Like other sensors, POWRLINK Zero pedal sets will prompt you to update firmware if they are not currently on the latest version.

  1. Select the pedals in the My sensors list and open the sensor details page.
  2. Update Firmware will appear below crank length.
  3. Ensure that the sensor is only connected to the Wahoo app on your phone or tablet (and not also to Zwift, TrainerRoad, or another app on another device) and that your phone is not paired to any other Bluetooth® devices (including headphones or smartwatches) and then
  4. Select Update Firmware and follow directions to update the pedal firmware.

Because the firmware is updated via Bluetooth®, which is a low-bandwidth protocol, and the app has to update both pedals, please understand the process may take several minutes.

You can also toggle Automatic Calibration on or off and manually calibrate the pedals using the Calibrate button at the bottom of the POWRLINK Zero sensor details page.

Set up a KICKR CLIMB

To set up a KICKR CLIMB with a compatible Wahoo trainer

    1. First ensure the KICKR CLIMB and smart trainer are plugged in and powered with the blue LED illuminated on the KICKR CLIMB remote.

    2. Press and hold the center lock mode button on the KICKR CLIMB remote for 3 seconds until the center white LED flashes steadily.

    3. Hold the CLIMB's remote near the KICKR or KICKR SNAP until the center white LED flashes quickly, then turns solid. The center white LED remains illuminated and solid while connected and successfully paired to the smart trainer.

Once the CLIMB is paired to the trainer, the CLIMB sensor details, bike wheelbase and tire circumference settings, tilt, and hub height status, and firmware update process are accessed from the trainer's sensor details page in the My sensors list.

Control a KICKR HEADWIND

In addition to manual control of the buttons on the fan's face, the HEADWIND mode and mode settings are modified in the Wahoo app. Once paired, select the HEADWIND in the My sensors list to open the sensor details/control panel.  You can toggle between modes (Off, HR, Speed, and Manual) and set minimum and maximum thresholds for HR and Speed modes. The minimum value indicates at what HR or speed value the fan will turn on. The maximum value determines the HR or speed at which the maximum fan speed will be reached. The two intermediate speeds (50 and 75% respectively) will be set at points located equally between min and max values.
